La Selva is located at the base of the eastern slope of the Central mountains in Costa Rica. Because of this, and because La Selva contains both intact primary rainforest as well as secondary (regrown) rainforest, swamps, fields and intact riparian habitat, the area has an amazing abundance and diversity of wildlife.
