Here are some of the latest happenings in cichlid conservation issues.

Cuatro Cienegas

The March/April 2001 issue of "Nature Conservancy" magazine, published by The Nature Conservancy reports that the Nature Conservancy has teamed up with Pronatura (a Mexican conservation organization) to help preserve part of Cuatro Cienegas, an extremely important cichlid habitat in north-eastern Mexico.

This habitat is home to at least 77 endemic species of flora and fauna, including Cichlasoma minckleyi. This species has been the subject of substantial scientific investigation because of the presence of multiple "trophic" morphs, i.e. different forms of the same species that ate radically different food items.
